The company was founded in 1980 by Willy W. Klingler as a management buyout of a major Swiss industrial concern (Oehler AG, Aarau). The pool of experience of 52 years of construction of electric vehicles was saved by the transfer of some experienced employees.

In addition to the program of Oehler, Klingler has extended its programm with the organisation of coorperations with other producers. Klinlger took a high profile in car-free health resorts as Zermatt and Saas Fee.

Since the foundation of the company the W. Klingler Fahrzeugtechnik AG was located in Küttigen, in 1986 it moved into a new building in Unterentfelden. Since then Klingler has produced in this location.
|
In 2000 Klingler could take over the electric vehicle department of Mowag, Kreuzlingen. Thereby Klingler got further know-how and increased its market share, especially in the eastern part of Switzerland.
